"Well, basically, scientists have theorized that there are an infinite number of dimensions, each containing a different possible version of reality."
- Samantha Carter - There But for the Grace of God

An Alternate Reality is a parallel dimension which can differ from others or be very identical.

Alternate Realities

There exists an infinite number of alternate realities. (SG1: "There But for the Grace of God") When people enter alternate realities where they have a counterpart they can experience Entropic cascade failure, but if their reality is close relatively to the one they are in, the failure does not occur. (SG1: "Point of View", "Ripple Effect")
