Asuran High Council

The Asurans are a Nanite-based race.

The Asurans are constructed of interdependent, organic cells. They are capable of self-replication and organic assimilation to maintain their bodies and repair damages. They have an programming code that makes them very aggressive. The Asurans undergo periodic collective program updates, that they call 'merges', to exchange new information. Their programming also prohibits them from harming Lanteans. (SGA: "Progeny") They are made from Neutronium. (SGA: "Be All My Sins Remember'd") They use an Asuran Central data core to backup their merge data. (SGA: "Lifeline")

The Asurans emulate the Lantean society, with similar technology, architecture, clothing and appearance. They are led by the Asuran High Council. (SGA: "Progeny")

They have technology similar to Lantean technology including using Zero Point Modules, having City-ships and Puddle Jumpers that can be flown with people that have the Ancient Technology Activation gene. (SGA: "Progeny")

The Asurans were created by the Lanteans as a weapon against the Wraith. The individual nanites eventually began interlocking and creating more complex shapes before taking on a similar form to the Lanteans. They asked the Lanteans to remove the aggression programmed into them but they refused and as the Asurans could not attack the Lanteans due to their programming, they continued to experiment on the Asurans. The Lanteans decided that the experiment was over so they destroyed the Asurans and their city. A few nanites survived and the Asurans began to rebuild. They heard that Atlantis was destroyed and the Lanteans had left the galaxy. In 2006 they met Sheppard's team and Elizabeth Weir and learned that Atlantis had survived so they launched a city-ship to destroy it but it was destroyed on the way. (SGA: "Progeny") After McKay's tampering of their code, the Asurans were able to modify it themselves and removed part that prevented them from harming their creators. They launched an attack on Atlantis and when they found Lanteans there, they killed them all. They lost control of the city when all of the Asurans in the city were destroyed at once. (SGA: "The Return, Part 2")

They began building a fleet of ships to either attack Atlantis or attack Earth. After their world was attacked and their fleet destroyed, they sent an Asuran Stargate satellite to attack Atlantis. (SGA: "First Strike") Their city was infiltrated and a number of them began to try to capture the infiltrators. They were all temporarily frozen by Elizabeth Weir but soon regained control. The directive to attack the Wraith was activated in therir next merge and they began launching ships to attack Wraith worlds. (SGA: "Lifeline") They began winning some major offensives against the Wraith. (SGA: "Reunion") The Asurans eventually began to lose some ships themselves. (SGA: "Tabula Rasa") As a way to fight the Wraith, the Asurans began wiping out human populations. (SGA: "The Seer") When their ships became targeted by Earth vessels, they retreated to Asuras to build more. Their individual nanites were all attracted to a single source on Asuras. This enormous mass sunk to the planet's core where it caused an explosion, wiping them out. A few Asurans survived aboard a ship. (SGA: "Be All My Sins Remember'd") The surviving Asurans attempted to reach ascension and ended up uploading themselves to subspace. They eventually made new bodies but were tricked into going through a Spacegate where they were disabled in the vacuum of space. (SGA: "Ghost in the Machine")
