"You can't exactly see it, not the singularity itself. It's so massive, not even light can escape it. But, during the totality phase of the eclipse, you should be able to see matter spiraling towards it."
- Samantha Carter - Singularity

A Black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape from it.

The singularity of a black hole cannot be seen due to light being absorbed by it. The accretion disk, the matter being sucked into the singularity, can be seen. (SG1: "Singularity") Intense gravity produced by the black hole will cause a time dilation effect. (SG1: "A Matter of Time") Black holes can interact with wormholes. (SG1: "Ripple Effect") Black holes can affect sensors, shields and communications of ships in proximity. (SG1: "The Pegasus Project")

Project 169 was founded to build the Douglas McLean Memorial Observatory on Hanka to be able to view a nearby black hole during an eclipse. (SG1: "Singularity") A black hole formed near P3W-451 and its time dilation field trapped SG-10 as the planet was ripped apart and they were killed. Stargate Command dialed into P3W-451 and couldn't disconnect the Stargate due to the time dilation effects that started to translate through and affect the base. (SG1: "A Matter of Time") The black hole near P3W-451 was used to cause a star to go supernova by dialing into the Stargate and allowing some stellar matter to be sucked through. (SG1: "Exodus") The Asgard increased the gravitational field of Hala's Star collapsing it into a black hole so it would destroy Hala and the Replicators. Some replicators used an Asgard Time dilation device to resist the gravitational effects and escape the black hole. (SG1: "New Order, Part 1")

The Ori used a black hole to power a Stargate and produce a Force field on Kallana. Kallana was converted into a black hole to power a Supergate but its formation destroyed the Supergate as its energy field had been disrupted. (SG1: "Beachhead") Gravity disturbances were detected and believed to be a potential beachhead but was found to be a regular black hole. (SG1: "Prototype") The black hole created when the Supergate was destroyed allowed for an alternate reality SG-1 to come through. It also caused numerous other SG-1's from other realities to be pulled through to Earth as well. (SG1: "Ripple Effect") A black hole in the Pegasus galaxy was used to indefinitely power a Stargate that was connected to the Supergate. (SG1: "The Pegasus Project") A rogue black hole moved through the Novus System, causing volcanoes and earthquakes to affect Novus. (SGU: "Common Descent", "Epilogue")
