First Prime (formerley)

Bra'tac - List of Appearances

Portrayed by

Tony Amendola

Bra'tac is a male Jaffa, a former First Prime of Apophis, a Jaffa master and a member of the Jaffa High Council.

Bra'tac was born around 1864 and knew long ago that the Goa'uld were not gods with his father telling him the story of Kheb and remarking that if the Goa'uld were gods why were they afraid of Kheb. (SG1: "Maternal Instinct") He attempted to Rite of M'al Sharran twice on different people, believing them to have regained their freedom before they died. (SG1: "Threshold") He trained Teal'c when he was young. (SG1: "Bloodlines") He presented Teal'c before Apophis after a battle with Ra and declared that he could one day take his place as First Prime. Despite this, Bra'tac was not happy when he was made First Prime, telling Teal'c that he knew the truth about the Goa'uld and would have to do terrible things while in the service but could save a lot of people if he had the chance. Bra'tac was brought by Teal'c to the Chulak Prison to see SG-1 and claimed they may be the best chance at freedom for the Jaffa. (SG1: "Threshold")

After Teal'c turned against the Goa'uld, Bra'tac knew that he would return to Chulak to stop his son Rya'c from being implanted with a symbiote and went to the ruins of Teal'c's home to find him. He came across SG-1 and was not convinced that the rest of the team were great warriors as Teal'c said; he attempted to attack Jack O'Neill but was knocked down, he claimed that if he was a hundred years younger it would not have been so easy but then knocked down O'Neill who attempted to help him up. He went with Teal'c and O'Neill to find Teal'c's wife Drey'auc and his son. When Teal'c gave his symbiote to Rya'c to save his life and Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson brought back another symbiote, Bra'tac stated that it was young and not yet ready for implantation, but implanted it anyway and saved Teal'c from death. He and Teal'c, in disguise, took the rest of SG-1 to the Stargate where they were stopped by the guards. Bra'tac attacked the guards, taking them all down easily and allowing SG-1 to return to Earth. (SG1: "Bloodlines")

He convinced Apophis to allow him to join the campaign against Earth, serving under Klorel aboard his Ha'tak and planning to lead a wing of Death gliders against Apophis in order to make him believe that Klorel was turning against him and drive a wedge between the two to prevent the attack on Earth. When Klorel was killed by SG-1, Bra'tac executed the Jaffa assigned to protect Klorel, to maintain the belief that he followed Klorel. He had Klorel placed in his Sarcophagus and then reported to Apophis, who ordered Bra'tac to execute SG-1. He released the team, giving them back their weapons and helping them capture the revived Klorel to use as a hostage. He piloted the Ha'tak closer to Apophis' Ha'tak so they could both be destroyed in a single explosion. Once aboard Apophis' Ha'tak, he declared Apophis a false god and destroyed the ships controls to prevent it from leaving. He took SG-1 to the shield generators to destroy them and then piloted a death glider to escape. He returned through the Stargate to Chulak to give the news of Apophis' death to his people. (SG1: "The Serpent's Lair")

Bra'tac began training Rya'c and during a training session Rya'c lost two teeth. He was contacted by Drey'auc who told him that Rya'c had been taken by Apophis, who had returned to Chulak. He went to the Stargate and used the GDO he had been given to go to Earth to tell Teal'c what had happened. He took SG-1 back to Chulak and to Drey'auc's house where they learned that Drey'auc had married Fro'tak, Teal'c's friend and Bra'tac's former ward. He swore to Teal'c that he did not know that she had remarried and asked for Teal'c's word not to commit Kel Mar Tokeem on Fro'tak. He helped SG-1 attempt to get Rya'c back but Rya'c alerted the guards and refused to leave with them. After Teal'c believed that Rya'c had sent a hidden message to him, Bra'tac believed such a message was beyond Rya'c's wisdom. When they rescued Rya'c, Bra'tac went to bring Drey'auc to the Stargate. He decided to remain behind on Chulak. (SG1: "Family")

After learning that Apophis had been killed, Bra'tac hoped the people of Chulak would rejoice but instead he was attacked by the last of Apophis' loyal Jaffa for fear that Klorel would return to claim the planet. He helped Teal'c with rescuing SG-1 from Hathor taking Teal'c and Hammond to find a Needle threader he had hidden around a hundred years ago. He led a group through the Stargate where he shot and killed Trofsky, Hathor's lead Jaffa and helped defeat Hathor's forces. (SG1: "Into the Fire") Bra'tac took on a new apprentice, Moac and when Apophis gained control of Sokar's forces and attacked Chulak, Bra'tac had no choice but to escape with Moac, who was too badly injured to be helped. Bra'tac told Moac that he was the bravest Jaffa he had ever met before he died. Bra'tac told Teal'c that he didn't think he had it in him to continue to fight the Goa'uld. He accompanied SG-1 to Kheb, tracking some Jaffa who had come looking for Apophis' Harcesis child Shifu. When they entered the temple on Kheb, Bra'tac spoke to a Monk there who told him that he could not achieve enlightenment until he was ready to die. Bra'tac realized that he was not ready to die yet and told Teal'c that he was not ready to give up yet as there were still false gods left to slay. (SG1: "Maternal Instinct")

Bra'tac told Shaun'auc a lot about the Tau'ri and sent her to Earth when she had communicated with her symbiote and convinced it to turn against the Goa'uld. (SG1: "Crossroads") When Teal'c had been brainwashed into serving Apophis again, Bra'tac came to see him and realized that Teal'c had deceived them into believing they had convinced him otherwise. He removed Teal'c's symbiote to force him to go through the Rite of M'al Sharran and realize the truth. He convinced Dr. Janet Fraiser to remain by Teal'c's side in case he needed to be saved. He revealed to Carter that the symbiote he carried would be his last as he was too old to take another. He spoke to Teal'c, telling him to choose to return to those who love freedom, or die in the name of a false god. The rite was successful and Teal'c was saved. (SG1: "Threshold")

He and Teal'c went to see Kytano speak and then returned to Earth to try to convince the SGC to help Kytano with supplies. When O'Neill was not onboard with Kytano's beliefs, Bra'tac said he hoped they could learn from one another's differences and bond to be stronger. When Teal'c went on a mission for Kytano, the rest of SG-1 were planning to leave and Bra'tac asked them to reconsider. Teal'c returned, having learned something about Kytano and then challenged him for leadership. When Teal'c beat him and Kytano was revealed to be the Goa'uld Imhotep, Bra'tac told the other Jaffa to follow Teal'c. (SG1: "The Warrior")

When Drey'auc grew ill and refused to take another symbiote, even one from a Jaffa who still followed the Goa'uld, she told Bra'tac not to call Teal'c. When she got near death he went and retrieved Teal'c but was too late as Drey'auc had already died. When Rya'c attacked Teal'c, blaming him for his mother's death, Bra'tac stopped him, stating that he should be glad his father did not fight back and told Rya'c that his grief has clouded his judgement. Bra'tac told Teal'c that Rya'c doubted himself because of what Apophis did to him and believes that Teal'c similarly doubts him as well. When Shaq'rel arrived to tell Bra'tac about an attack on Earth from Anubis, Bra'tac tested out various addresses of planets Anubis controlled to learn which one he was launching his attack from. (SG1: "Redemption, Part 1")

Bra'tac, Teal'c and Rya'c went to the planet and they ringed down and took out the Jaffa guarding there. He and Teal'c went to destroy the weapon that Anubis was using but they were captured trying to get to it. They were being moved when their guards were attacked by a Death glider flown by Rya'c and they got free. Rya'c destroyed the device and they all left the planet and went to Earth. He was joined by Rya'c to help recruit for the Jaffa rebellion. (SG1: "Redemption, Part 2")

Bra'tac was at the Alpha Site when the Tok'ra evacuated there. As they were searching for possible spies, Bra'tac was hoping the Jaffa wouldn't need to be questions but convinced them to take part. He discovered footprints that revealed that someone outside the camp was attacking them and he joined a team with O'Neill and the Tok'ra Malek to search. He briefly sensed the Ashrak as it attacked them and he pushed Malek out of harms way. He attempted to fight but was knocked down by the cloaked assailant who dragged him off. He was left to die but his symbiote healed him enough for him to make it way back just as the Ashrak was attacking the base. He shot the Ashrak several times, killing them. He accepted an apology from Malek who had failed to save him in the attack. (SG1: "Allegiance")

He and Teal'c went to Kresh'ta to meet with Jaffa rebel leaders but they were ambushed and everyone except Bra'tac and Teal'c were killed and everyone but Teal'c had their symbiotes removed. Teal'c put Junior into Bra'tac and for three days switched the symbiote between them to keep them both alive. After being rescued and brought back to the SGC, they were put on Tretonin as a substitute for a symbiote. (SG1: "The Changeling") Teal'c went with Rya'c to Erebus to recruit rebel Jaffa but they were captured trying to leave and put to work in the camp. Bra'tac rationed his Tretonin but after three months his supply was exhausted. He told Rya'c to remain strong and they would be rescued. As he grew weaker he was found by Teal'c and Rak'nor who provided him with some Tretonin but they were captured as well. Bra'tac noticed that Teal'c was in question of his abilities and reminded him tha this strength comes from his heart and his mind, not having a symbiote. When SG teams began attacking the camp, Bra'tac yelled for the prisoner Jaffa to fight now and he helped liberate the camp. (SG1: "Orpheus")

He and Teal'c went to a planet where they discovered that a meeting between Ramius and Tilgath had resulted in lots of death. They found Ramius' First Prime who told them that someone else attacked them. They were attacked by this warrior who they fired at but it resisted their attacks. Bra'tac attempted to hit them but it threw him back. It eventually collapsed on the ground in front of them. When they wanted to capture a living warrior, Bra'tac contacted Adal who helped them get to Ramius' world and set up an ambush. The warrior resisted their attacks and they were captured when Ramius' Jaffa arrived. Bra'tac recommended they surrender and maybe Adal could get them out later. The warrior got to Ramius but they were released and managed to capture the warrior before it escaped. Bra'tac and Teal'c tried to interrogate it but couldn't get much out of it. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 1")

He flew a Tel'tak to Tartarus with Carter and Teal'c and waiting nearby while they entered Anubis' base and met up with Jacob Carter. When they all ran out of the base, he collected them and they escaped by a Kull Warrior got aboard the ship. Jacob led it to the back and Bra'tac activated the Ring Transporter to send the warrior outside. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 2") Bra'tac received word that Anubis was gathering his fleet to attack Earth so he went to warn them. He returned to Chulak with Teal'c to try to get ships to help defend Earth. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 1") They met with Ronan who offered his Tel'tak in exchange for going with them. After arriving at their location, SG-1 went to look for advanced weapons and as they were returning, Ronon revealed himself as agent of Anubis and stabbed Bra'tac in his symbiote pouch. With no symbiote there he survived and fought with Ronan, knocking him down and similarly stabbing and killing him. SG-1 arrived and O'Neill, who had the Ancient Repository of Knowledge in his mind, somehow used the Ancient Healing ability to heal Bra'tac's wound and save his life. They returned to Earth and as SG-1 went to find the advanced weapons they needed, he retreated and later witnessed as weapons were launched against Anubis' fleet. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 2")

He went with Teal'c to Hak'tyl where they learned that Rya'c was betrothed and Teal'c was upset he had not been consulted. When the Hak'tyl resistance evacuated to Earth, Bra'tac went to see O'Neill to talk about performing the Rite of Everlasting Union for Rya'c and Kar'yn. During a practice of the ceremony, Kar'yn became upset at having to kneel before Rya'c and the two left, with Bra'tac remarking that he now sees why they practice these rituals first. He met with the rebel Jaffa forces in Moloc's worlds and reported that they were mighty but he was unsure if they could win. He later performed the rite for Rya'c and Kar'yn. (SG1: "Sacrifices") He was helping with coordinated attacks against the Goa'uld when they were attacked by the Replicators. Bra'tac was concerned when rebel Jaffa began re-pledging themselves to the Goa'uld, seeing the Replicators as a punishment for them turning against them. When Teal'c came up with a plan to capture Dakara as a symbol to represent the fact that the Goa'uld were not gods. They met with Jaffa leaders and convinced them to join in and they luckily captured the planet. Bra'tac told captured Jaffa that they would not be harmed. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1")

When Ba'al sent a fleet to retake Dakara, Bra'tac helped in defending it but when the Replicators arrived, they had to fight them instead. After the Replicators were destroyed with a weapon found on Dakara, Bra'tac and rebel Jaffa went over to Ba'al's ship and took the bridge. Bra'tac and the others went to shoot Ba'al but he beamed away as they opened fire. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 2") Bra'tac and Teal'c were proclaimed blood-kin to all Jaffa and asked to join the Jaffa High Council. He told O'Neill that the council didn't want to destroy the weapon on Dakara as it gave them power against anymore Goa'uld. He led a fight to track down Anubis and his forces and destroy them. They got to Tartarus but found it empty with Anubis having tricked them in a plan to take back Dakara. Luckily, his forces were defeated and Dakara was safe. (SG1: "Threads")

He and Rya'c worked to negotiate with Jaffa coalitions on voting for democracy for the Free Jaffa Nation. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 2") When Gerak was arguing for the Jaffa to accept Origin as their official religion, Bra'tac argued back that the Ori were responsible for the Jaffa deaths on Kallana. He later told Teal'c that Gerak was old and believing that the Ori would ascend him was a comfort. To dissuade the council from Gerak's proposal, Bra'tac and Teal'c gathered support on Chulak to oppose them, hoping they would rather continue to debate than take Jaffa lives. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1") Gerak was converted into a Prior and again pushed for Origin for all Jaffa so Bra'tac and Teal'c gathered a force to show that they would oppose this. While waiting for Gerak's forces Bra'tac remarked that if it worked, Teal'c would have once again proven himsel to be the only one capable of saving the Jaffa. Teal'c said that he had hoped that Bra'tac would be the one to lead the Jaffa after this. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 2")

Bra'tac worked with Maz'rai on his proposal for democracy for the Jaffa Nation. After Maz'rai and Ka'lel changed their minds on democracy and Teal'c went to investigate and disappeared, Bra'tac went to Earth for help. He and Jackson went to speak with U'kin whom Teal'c had gone to meet with and Bra'tac forced him to reveal that he had helped someone capture Teal'c. Bra'tac revealed that he saw that U'kin had been brainwashed. They confronted Maz'rai and Bra'tac said he would let it go if Maz'rai could tell him anything he had done the night before he changed his mind. They later were brought in and found that Maz'rai had removed his symbiote, realizing he had been brainwashed and put himself through the Rite of M'al Sharran; he managed to write down Ka'lel's name so Bra'tac followed her to learn where Teal'c had been taken. He attacked the planet where Teal'c was, using an Al'kesh to allow SG teams to arrive by Stargate. He was shot down and brought before Ba'al, with Teal'c having been brainwashed and ordered to kill Bra'tac. Teal'c had faked being brainwashed and killed Ba'al instead. Bra'tac and Teal'c returned to Dakara, voting in favor of democracy which passed. (SG1: "Stronghold")

After a fleet was destroyed trying to stop Ori Warships that came through the Supergate, Bra'tac went to Earth and reported to Landry. He took three ships to the battle site and drove off two Lucian Alliance ships and he then reported that the Ori Warships had been found at Chulak. SG-1 joined Bra'tac to go to stop them but their plan failed and Bra'tac set their ship on a collision course with the nearest warship. They were all beamed off before the ship hit the shields as Cameron Mitchell had placed a Locator beacon on him. (SG1: "Flesh and Blood") When the new leader of the council, Se'tak, wanted to use the weapon on Dakara against the Ori, Bra'tac spoke against it. After the weapon was used he went to Earth to speak with Landry and returned to Dakara with him. After meeting with Se'tak, they were detained as Se'tak believed SG-1 had taken the Ori Warship and was going to attack. He and Landry watched as Se'tak used the weapon again but it appeared not to work as the warship fired on Dakara. Bra'tac escaped with Landry and watched as the ship destroy the temple on Dakara. He feared that the loss of Dakara meant that the Jaffa Nation would not survive. (SG1: "Counterstrike")

He worked to examine the source of information about a possible new Supergate. (SG1: "Company of Thieves") He worked to try to reform a council for the Jaffa. (SG1: "Bounty") He and Teal'c went to Dar Eshkalon to attend a Jaffa summit. He heard Nisal talk about fighting the Ori forces but cautioned him that doing so without leadership would fail. An explosion rocked the camp and Bra'tac was badly injured in the blast. Weeks later he awoke at the SGC and told Jackson that he had trained Arkad in the past and had always thought there was something wrong with him. He told Jackson that Teal'c believed that Arkad had murdered his mother so his revenge against Arkad was personal. After Teal'c had killed Arkad but was injured, he told Bra'tac that he had already killed the man who had murdered his mother but now knew that Arkad had ordered it. Bra'tac told Teal'c that he should have said it long ago but he thought of Teal'c as the son he never had and was very proud of him. (SG1: "Talion")
