Major General Hank Landry is a male Tau'ri, a member of the United States Air Force and the commander of Stargate Command.

Biography

Early life

He married Kim Lam and the two were married for 12 years before separating. (SG1: "Family Ties") He and his daughter, Carolyn Lam, have a strained relationship. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 2") He served as air support out of Bien Hoa when his plane was shot down and he landed near the Laotian border. Bleeding badly with no food, he had to trek eight days to get to safety while being hunted by soldiers. (SG1: "Uninvited")

Stargate Command

Jack O'Neill came to him in 2005 and told him about the Stargate Program, asking him to take command of the SGC. He accepted the position and took command of the base. He met Cameron Mitchell, telling him that SG-1 had disbanded and he was taking command, needing to find personnel to join him on the team. When the SGC was contacted by Vala Mal Doran, Landry spoke to Daniel Jackson about her and agreed to let her come to Earth to examine her information on an Ancient treasure on Earth. After Vala put Kor mak bracelets on herself and Jackson, Landry had her locked up and when he confronted her, she collapsed. When Jackson gave a presentation on King Arthur and Merlin, Landry grew impatient and later authorized Mitchell, Jackson, Teal'c and Vala to go in search of the Ancient treasure. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 1") He told Jackson that he would authorize them to go to try to find people left behind by the Alterans, he just had to tell him where they were going. Carloyn came to work under him, not being told that her father would be her boss and he tried to reconnect with her. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 2")

After Jackson and Vala used an Ancient Long-range communication device, Landry ordered that they be disconnected in any means necessary if something goes wrong. After a Prior was met offworld, he sent Mitchell and SG-12 to go and meet them. He met Gerak, the new leader of the Jaffa High Council, who wanted to meet the Prior. Landry was called out to be told that new information had been given that the Priors and the Ori could not be trusted and had the Prior detained, but he burned and destroyed himself rather than be taken. (SG1: "Origin") He attended a briefing with Elizabeth Weir concerning greater military presence on Atlantis and she was insistent that John Sheppard remain in command and that they should promote him. (SGA: "The Intruder")

He was annoyed at the meetings he had to take part in and asked Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman to take part and just write him up a report. He authorized Mitchell and Jackson to find a solution to unlink Jackson and Vala but refused to allow them to go up against the Lucian Alliance. He went with Jackson, Teal'c and Vala to Washington, D.C. to meet with the Senate Appropriations Committee about funding for the SGC. After Vala insulted Senator Fisher he said he wanted Vala gone and authorized their mission. (SG1: "The Ties That Bind") He attempted to get along better with Carolyn and invited her to lunch but he was met with some hostility. As Carolyn was leaving on a medical mission, he wished her luck. (SG1: "The Powers That Be") When the Goa'uld Nerus contacted the SGC about an Ori beachhead being built, Landry allowed him to come the base and even had the foods Nerus requested supplied. When he learned that Nerus was working with the Ori and had manipulated them into helping, he confronted the Goa'uld. He later told Nerus that he would be locked up and forced to help, stating they would be withholding food to make him compliant. (SG1: "Beachhead")

After a dead Jaffa was found on Earth, Landry sent Teal'c and Mitchell to speak with Gerak and had Jackson investigate on Earth. He called SG-1 in after the SGC received a video message from Ba'al who was hiding on Earth. He authorized launching a missile with Symbiote poison against a facility that Ba'al was at but they failed to kill him. (SG1: "Ex Deus Machina") When Mitchell disappeared after SG-1 was ambushed by the Sodan, Landry was informed after weeks of search that the International Committee was keeping a record of all the resources used and would soon order the search called off. (SG1: "Babylon") After finding a human clone of Anubis, Jackson recommended to Landry that he be killed but Landry decided against it for the moment to gather intelligence. Richard Woolsey arrived to take control of the situation and have Khalek kept alive to learn about his advanced abilities. After Khalek attempted escape and shot Carolyn with a Zat'nik'tel, Landry gave Woolsey a very angry look. He later told Woolsey that he was having Khalek put back in stasis and would accept the loss of funding from the Committee for doing this. Khalek attempted escape again and was killed in the process. (SG1: "Prototype")

When the PRIOR2 virus began spreading on Earth, Landry coordinated efforts to stop its further spread but it began to get out of control. He met with Orlin, who has de-ascended, who informed them that the Ori were sapping energy from their followers and did not ascend anyone. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1") When SGC personnel fell ill, Landry wanted to go to see them but he was talked out of it by Lam. When a Prior was captured offworld, Landry brought Orlin to speak to the Prior. When the Prior overcame the Anti-Prior device, he pulled Landry to him and began to choke him as well as infect him with the virus. Landry was quarantined at the SGC and began to get worse. He and the others on the base were cured by Gerak, who had been turned into a Prior. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 2")

2006

When Mitchell was accused of murder on Galar, Landry wanted him returned but Mitchell wanted to remain to uncover the truth. After Mitchell was cleared and the real murderer was found, Landry spoke to him about the report he had got from Carter about something from Mitchell's past. Mitchell told Landry that at the time he almost quit and Landry said that he was glad he did not. (SG1: "Collateral Damage") When Agent Malcolm Barrett came to see him and revealed they had discovered that The Trust had planted a bomb on Atlantis, he tasked Dr. Bill Lee with finding a way to warn them. The Daedalus was used to relay a message and Landry was later informed that the Daedalus had returned to Atlantis to help despite him ordering them to stay put to relay more information. (SGA: "Critical Mass") When SG-1 returned from a mission, Landry was confused that they were stating things that were not correct, only for another SG-1 to come through the Stargate. The first team was found to be from an alternate reality and soon after more teams began arriving. Landry authorized a plan to stop more teams from arriving and was approached by an alternate Dr. Janet Fraiser who wanted to stop the plan as it would mean that those already there were stuck. (SG1: "Ripple Effect")

He sent Jackson with Bra'tac to search for Teal'c who was missing while investigating changes on the Jaffa High Council. He authorized Mitchell to use the Galaran Memory technology on his friend, Bryce Ferguson, who was dying to show him what Mitchell had been doing. When Teal'c's location had been found, he authorized a rescue mission, stating that Teal'c was family and he didn't like people messing with his family. (SG1: "Stronghold") He was in Washington, D.C. when SG-1 were approached about a mission to destroy an Ori Satellite weapon. (SG1: "Ethon")

When SG-1 failed to check in on a mission and the Stargate they went to could not be connected to, Landry sent the Odyssey to rescue them. When they received reports of stolen Stargates, Landry went to Area 51 to speak with Nerus and learn who was behind it. Landry arranged a feast for information from Nerus but when Nerus said he would only tell him where to find Ba'al if he was released, Landry refused. A plan was developed to get Nerus to eat a transmitter so he could be tracked and then a Computer virus was installed on some of his devices which would disable Ba'al's ship once interfaced. (SG1: "Off the Grid") Landry called off a mission for SG-1 when they were requested to take some International Oversight Advisory representatives to the Gamma Site for a tour. When they failed to return, they learned that the R75 bugs had escaped containment and overrun the Gamma Site. Landry sent the Odyssey to enact Protocol CR-91 which would kill the bugs but also anyone else left alive. Luckily SG-1 saved the representatives. (SG1: "The Scourge")

When Mitchell and Carter disappeared on the base, Landry had Jackson examine security footage to find them and authorized Teal'c and SG-12 to go and help the Sodan after receiving a call for help. Jackson discovered that the Mantle of Arthur device Carter was working on had shifted the pair to another dimension and when Lee tried to reverse it and accidentally shifted Jackson as well, Landry was annoyed. While working on saving them again, Landry told Lee that if he shifted them to another dimension he would not be safe from him. (SG1: "Arthur's Mantle") Landry interviewed Vala when she inhabited Jackson's body but was concerned as Jackson was needed for a meeting with IOA representatives. He met with Colonel Chekov and Shen Xiaoyi by himself and Chekov informed him that the Russians were taking back their Stargate. Landry later confronted Chekov stating that the whole thing was being used as leverage and asked what he really wanted; Chekov wanted the next BC-304 to be given to Russia in exchange for continued use of the Stargate. When Vala revealed the Ori were building warships to invade, he authorized SG-1 to go in search of Merlin's weapon. (SG1: "Crusade")

After a Supergate had been discovered and a fleet went to destroy it, Bra'tac arrived on Earth to inform Landry that their reports stated that the fleet had been destroyed. Landry had to meet with Richard Woolsey who said that that IOA was considering recalling the Zero Point Module from Atlantis to power the Antarctic outpost but Landry pointed out that there was no knowing if the Drones would be able to stop the warships and it would still take over 3 weeks for the ZPM to arrive. (SG1: "Flesh and Blood") When Weir contacted the SGC about two Hive ships headed for Earth, Landry had her come back to Earth as the IOA wanted to speak with her. He later told her that he believed her position as leader of the Atlantis expedition was safe as she proceeded with her work with the blessings of the IOA and the SGC. (SGA: "No Man's Land")

Landry authorized SG-1 to go to Vagonbrei to search for Merlin's weapon and later sent a medical team to check on them. He noticed that Vala was "studying" for her psychological assessment and later told her as she attempted to leave the SGC that she had passed. He was annoyed at Woolsey, who had been part of her assessment by pretending to ask her to be a spy, when Vala lied that he made sexual advances on her. (SG1: "Morpheus") After Ba'al arrived on Earth and wanted help to stop his clones in exchange for the location of Merlin's weapon, Landry sent SG teams to track down the other clones in an effort to try to find the real Ba'al. When Agent Malcolm Barrett wanted to take one of the clones for interrogation, Landry refused. (SG1: "Insiders")

Landry used O'Neill's cabin for some down time with SG-1. Mitchell was the first to arrive and the rest of SG-1 were delayed. He tried to convince Mitchell to join him in Duck watching but Mitchell wasn't interested. When a man was killed by a bear, Landry joined Mitchell to hunt it before it killed someone else. A Trust Operative was found shot in the woods, having been spying on Landry and Mitchell. It was discovered that the Trust Operative had been using a Sodan Cloaking device which had released an interdimensional creature that had mutated the bear. More SG teams came into help hunt it down and after it had been killed, Mitchell told Landry to get down but Landry assumed Mitchell was kidding until he was tackled to the ground and the others shot another creature. (SG1: "Uninvited") He ordered SG-1 to help Martin Lloyd with the Wormhole X-Treme! movie script and later planned to have the Stargate "malfunction" to keep Mitchell on the base while SG teams set up a celebration on P2C-106 for Mitchell's 200th trip through the Stargate. (SG1: "200")

Bra'tac came to Earth to tell Landry that the new Jaffa leader Se'tak had used the Dakara Weapon against the Ori armies, wiping out thousand of people in the process. Landry went with him to Dakara and was angered that Se'tak didn't want to follow the agreements of his predecessors. He and Bra'tac were detained when the Ori Warship on the planet began flying away and Se'tak assumed SG-1 had taken control and attacked the Jaffa ships in orbit. Landry watched as Se'tak had the weapon activated again to stop the ship when it arrived in orbit but it appeared not to work. Landry and Bra'tac escaped as the ship fired on Dakara. (SG1: "Counterstrike") After Vala was kidnapped by the Trust, Landry contacted Agent Barrett for help. He later sent SG-1 out when they received information about Vala's whereabouts. After Vala was found, Landry presented her with SG-1 team patches and made her an official member of the team. (SG1: "Memento Mori") When the Odyssey was captured by the Lucian Alliance, Landry told Teal'c to put out the word that he wanted to arrange a meeting with Netan. He later authorized Mitchell to go undercover in the Alliance. (SG1: "Company of Thieves")

After the Atlantis expedition had to return to Earth when the Lanteans took control of Atlantis and the Asurans attacked the city, Landry called in the senior expedition personnel to find a way to beam a nuclear bomb into the city. When the Puddle Jumper on the base was stolen, Landry knew it was the senior personnel. (SGA: "The Return, Part 1") He sent a message after them but when they didn't reply or return, he had their IDC's locked out. He ordered the Daedalus to enact the plan to destroy the city. (SGA: "The Return, Part 2")

2007

After a successful test of the Mantle of Arthur, Landry sent SG-1 to test it on P9C-882 and hide an entire village from the Ori. (SG1: "Line in the Sand") When Jackson was found to have been converted into a Prior, he was captured and interrogated but revealed it was part of his plan to destroy the Ori by sending the Sangraal through the Supergate. When Richard Woolsey came to see him, he said that the IOA had ordered Jackson's life be terminated as he was too much of a risk to keep alive. While speaking with Jack O'Neill, Woolsey was beamed in and O'Neill was beamed out as Jackson had commandeered the Odyssey. (SG1: "The Shroud") When Jackson and Carter were attacked by bounty hunter, Landry called Mitchell to inform him but said it was fine for him to remain where he was. Landry tried to call Mitchell later and Mitchell requested assistance so he sent the rest of SG-1 after him. (SG1: "Bounty")

He sent SG-1 to P4M-328 to look for the Clava Thessara Infinitas. (SG1: "Bad Guys") When Teal'c wanted to track down Arkad and kill him after he bombed a Jaffa summit, Landry refused to allow it but Teal'c instead left the SGC. When Arkad came to Earth to offer his assistance in stopping an attack on Earth that he had been accused of planning, Landry wanted to know what his demands were but Arkad said he just wanted to help. Landry sent SG-1 and SG-3 to stop Teal'c as his actions could still be seen of those of the SGC and cause an attack anway. (SG1: "Talion") When Jacek, Vala's father, offered information on Arkad's planned attack in exchange for sanctuary, Landry sent SG-1 to confirm his information before allowing him to come to Earth. He asked Carolyn if he should contact her mother, his ex-wife, but she said she would set something up. After three weeks, Landry let Vala know that Jacek had been trying to contact her everyday so maybe he wanted to change and be a better father. Landry attended a dinner with Carolyn and his ex-wife, Kim Lam. (SG1: "Family Ties")

When Adria was captured by Ba'al and information on a meeting of the clones was uncovered, Landry sent SG teams to the planet. He sent SG-1 after Adria and was later disappointed that despite killing Ba'al clones and Adria ascending, they still hadn't made much progress. (SG1: "Dominion") Landry went with SG-1 to Orilla where the Asgard gave them all their technology and knowledge as they were dying and were going to end all of their lives at once. When Ori Warships attacked, Landry ordered the new weapon used and they managed to destroy one of the ships before escaping. The Ori Warships tracked the new Asgard Computer core so Landry had the crew of the Odyssey dropped on a planet to escape through the Stargate while he and SG-1 tried to disconnect the core in time. Teal'c had a Control crystal that allowed them to do it and he later explained that SG-1 and Landry had spent 50 years in a time dilation field before Carter came up with a way to save them. (SG1: "Unending")

Ark of Truth

Landry introduced Cameron Mitchell to James Marrick and later said that Marrick would be joining the mission to look for the Ark of Truth in the Ori galaxy. A Prior made contact with SG-3 and asked to speak to Landry, so he authorized SG-3 to bring the Prior to Earth. Landry told the Prior that even if he spoke to the world, they probably wouldn't listen to what he had to say. The Prior grew angry at Landry's resistance. He was contacted by Colonel Abraham Ellis who was aboard the Apollo when seven Ori Warships arrived at Earth and said that he hoped that SG-1 would return soon. When SG-1 returned with the Ark, Landry went to see the Prior again and had the Ark brought in to convince him to stand down the Ori forces. When Jackson said that the Ark should be destroyed, Landry told him that it was instead being sent to Area 51 for study. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)

Commander

He was contacted from Atlantis by Samantha Carter to inform him that the city was now connected back to the McKay-Carter Intergalactic Gate Bridge. He was told that Elizabeth Weir had been lost and he passed along his condolences. (SGA: "Lifeline") When Daniel Jackson was injured in the Pegasus galaxy, Landry wanted him to return to Earth to recover. (SGA: "The Lost Tribe") In early 2009 he was in Washington, D.C. heading up a task force and wasn't at Stargate Command when a Hive ship arrived at Earth. (SGA: "Enemy at the Gate")

Family

Alternate Realities

  • In an alternate reality visited by Carter, Landry was President of the United States from at least 2004. After Anubis' attack on Earth the existence of the Stargate was revealed and he had to enact martial law and curfews after civil unrest. He had operations offworld scaled back to protect Earth instead. After Carter arrived from another reality and used the Mantle of Arthur to hide Earth from Ori forces, he paraded her to the media. He refused to allow her to go back to her reality as he needed her, both for the knowledge she had but also as a media personality to make him look good. After she spoke against his policies on tv he relented and allowed her to return to her reality. (SG1: "The Road Not Taken")
