Jacob Carter - List of Appearances

Portrayed by

Carmen Argenziano

Jacob Carter was a male Tau'ri, a member of the United States Air Force, the father of Samantha and Mark Carter and the host of the Tok'ra Selmak.

Jacob served with George Hammond during the Cold War. (SG1: "Secrets") He was supposed to pick up his wife but was late so she took a cab and was involved in an accident and killed. He returned home to tell Samanatha. Mark blamed Jacob for his mothers death and Samantha didn't say much to him after the accident. (SG1: "Jolinar's Memories", "The Devil You Know") In 1998 he learned that he had Lymphoma and was going to die; he nd wanted to see his daughter fulfil her dream of being an astronaut and going into space, so he called Bollinger, the head of NASA to try to get her as part of the program. He was invited by Hammond to a ceremony where Samantha and Jack O'Neill were being given the Air Medal where he revealed to Samantha that he had got her a chance to join the Space Program but was upset when she didn't want to join. He later revealed to her that he had cancer and it was his dream to see her go into space, she refused again and he left, telling her that she doesn't need to check up on him tomorrow as the cancer would not kill him for months. (SG1: "Secrets") Jacob bought an apartment in Colorado Springs so he could be closer to Samantha during his final days. (SG1: "The Tok'ra, Part 1")

He eventually ended up in hospital in a bad condition after the cancer spread to his liver and called Hammond to come and see him, asking him what his daughter actually did but Hammond couldn't tell him. When his condition worsened, a doctor told Hammond to contact any family that Jacob had. Samantha and Hammond came to see him to offer him a chance to live - they told him about the Stargate and that there was a Tok'ra that needed a host and that it would save his life. He went through the Stargate and met Selmak and their host Saroosh and agreed to become a host. When Selmak blended with Jacob they fell unconscious as Selmak healed Jacob's cancer. When they woke, Jacob was surprised to find that his arthritis as well. They returned to Earth where Jacob told Hammond that he had made the right call in trusting the Tok'ra and thanked his daughter for giving him the best assignment he had ever received. He left with the other Tok'ra. (SG1: "The Tok'ra, Part 1", "The Tok'ra, Part 2")

Jacob came to Earth when the SGC contacted the Tok'ra and explained a bit about the Reetou and how the Goa'uld had wiped most of them out. When a team of Reetou Rebels infiltrated the SGC, Jacob helped track them down and was shot by one of their weapons, badly injuring his arm. After taking care of the rebels, he returned to the Tok'ra. (SG1: "Show and Tell") Jacob was urged by Selmak to return to Earth to try to repair his relationship with Mark. Jacob came to Earth on a mission, to track down the Goa'uld Seth who had been hiding on Earth for thousands of years. Jacob joined SG-1 to locate him but couldn't go into his compound as Seth would be able to sense Selmak. Meeting with a man who's son had been pulled into Seth's cult, Jacob recognized himself and his son's relationship and realized how petty he had been. After stopping Seth, Jacob went with Samantha to see Mark and reconcile, meeting his grandson and granddaughter. (SG1: "Seth")

He went on an undercover mission in Sokar's territory finding that he had built a fleet large enough to overthrow the System Lords. Before he could relay the information, he was captured, tortured and sent to the hellish prison moon Netu. A few days later, SG-1 and Martouf arrived and relayed the information to Teal'c in orbit to deliver to the Tok'ra. He informed them that Bynarr, the Lord of Netu, would visit Delmak, Sokar's homeworld to report to Sokar, revealing a possible escape. On their first attempt after Bynarr was killed they were captured and re-imprisoned. But their second attempt was successful. Jacob asked Sam if she had any leave coming up and that they could go on a father-daughter vacation. (SG1: "Jolinar's Memories", "The Devil You Know")

Jacob was on a mission on P2C-257 aboard a cloaked cargo ship about to detonate a shipment of Naquadah, when he saw Samantha and Jackson coming through the Stargate. He brought them aboard and wanted to know why they were there, stating that their arrival had jeopardized his mission. He took the cargo ship to locate the X-301 with O'Neill and Teal'c aboard. When the ship's hyperdrive failed, he and Samantha managed to repair it and made it in time to rescue the two. (SG1: "Tangent") Jacob remained on Earth for a vacation but was soon sent with SG-1 to the Tobin System to reprogram a Tobin Mine in order to stop an alliance between Apophis and Heru'ur by inciting them into war with one another. He translated for O'Neill what the two were talking to each other about including that Heru'ur was offering to hand over a captured Teal'c. after reprogramming the mine, Jacob piloted the cargo ship to try to intercept the matter stream with Teal'c on it but they missed. Jacob was shocked when Apophis decloaked an entire fleet and destroyed Heru'ur. (SG1: "The Serpent's Venom")

He helped pilot Cronus' Ha'tak to Vorash to help the Tok'ra move to a new planet and to teach SG-1 how to use the ship, despite feeling it was too advanced for them to have. When Tanith escaped and communicated with Apophis who launched a fleet towards Vorash, he and Samantha came up with a plan to cause Vorash's Star to go supernova and take out Apophis' fleet. They were attacked by an Al'kesh and Jacob and Samantha had to repair many of the ships systems. When Apophis' fleet arrived early, Jacob took the ship behind the star to hide and then launched the ships Death gliders as a distraction so they could get back to Vorash for O'Neill and Teal'c. They left just as the star went supernova which affected their hyperdrive and sent them over 4 million light years into another galaxy. (SG1: "Exodus")

When Apophis' Mothership followed them, but began attacking another spaceship, Jacob hid their ship in the coronasphere of a star while he and Samantha brought weapons and shields back online but could not repair the hyperdrive. The found Apophis's ship abandoned and went aboard to either take control or get the supplies needed to fix their ship. Jacob went to the pel'tac to try to disable the auto-destruct but found it overrun with Replicators. Returning to their ship, Jacob and Samantha fixed the hyperdrive but Apophis, who had fled his ship, took control and Jacob tried to rescue SG-1 but was captured as well. When the Replicators took over this ship and modified the hyperdrive to get it back to the Milky Way faster, Jacob prepped a cargo ship for their escape as SG-1 worked to destroy the ship and prevent the Replicators from reaching their galaxy. (SG1: "Enemies")

He met with SG-1 to discuss the plan to take out all the System Lords at once using the newly created Symbiote poison by sending Jackson in undercover to release it. He later told O'Neill that this was part of their plan to wipe out the Goa'uld once and for all. While journeying to Yu's homeworld to get Jackson put undercover, he gave Jackson a ring that would allow him to prick Yu and inject him with the Reole chemical to make him think Jackson was his servant. Jacob followed Yu to the meeting in a cloaked cargo ship and communicated with Jackson who told him that Osiris had arrived on board. (SG1: "Summit") Jackson wouldn't release the poison as it would kill Sarah Gardner, Osiris' host, but the plan was later scrapped when they learned that Anubis had returned. Jackson was going to capture Osiris and escape but had to escape on his own in an escape pod that Jacob ringed aboard. They returned to Revanna to discover it was under attack and there was a signal keeping them away. After detecting another signal, an SOS, they entered the atmosphere but were attacked and crashed. The poison was released near the Stargate to take out the attacking Jaffa. (SG1: "Last Stand")

Jacob was contacted by the SGC for help when Jackson was exposed to a fatal amount of radiation and he came to the SGC to use a Goa'uld Healing device on him. During the process O'Neill told him to stop and just let Jackson go. As Jackson began to die, Jacob witnessed him ascend. (SG1: "Meridian") Jacob joined SG-1 in investigating a Ha'tak that arrived at Earth where they discovered that the ship had been abandoned. He was shot in the back by three hidden Jaffa who directed the ship to crash into the Pacific Ocean. As they waited for rescue, O'Neill and Samantha were trapped in a flooding corridor and Jacob was unable to open the door, luckily the security subroutine holding the door closed was erased and they were able to get out. They discovered that Thor's consciousness was within the ships computer and Jacob said that having Thor owe them one was more valuable than the ship itself. (SG1: "Descent")

When a Tok'ra base was attacked, he dialed the Alpha Site to help evacuate as many Tok'ra as possible. He set a small nuclear weapon to destroy the base and stop anyone from following them. After an altercation between the Tok'ra and the free Jaffa, Jacob told O'Neill that it was to be expected as they had been enemies for millenia and most Tok'ra that had died had been killed by Jaffa. He helped run the Za'tarc Detector to scan all the people on the base to try to find any possible spies. After a cloaked Ashrak was found to be attacking them, he helped Samantha and Malek generate an energy field to disrupt the cloak. (SG1: "Allegiance")

Jacob came to the SGC with samples of modified Tretonin and gave it to the dying Teal'c and Bra'tac to save their lives. (SG1: "The Changeling") When O'Neill regressed age 30 years over night and was dying, Jacob came to the SGC to offer to put him into stasis until they could find a solution. (SG1: "Fragile Balance") He helped Samantha examine a dead Kull Warrior and found it had a symbiote in them and that it had been given life after it had grown. He helped translate a piece of writing that Jackson had which told them where to find the device that Anubis would have used to create the warrior. When they captured another Kull Warrior, he helped them interrogate it, planting a Memory recall device on it to learn where it had come from. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 1")

He wore the Kull armor in order to get through the force field around the Stargate on Tartarus and entered Anubis' base. He disabled the sensor array to let Samantha and Teal'c arrived and they searched the base, learning that Anubis had used knowledge he obtained from Jonas Quinn to make blank slate symbiotes for use in the warriors. They had to escape when they were detected but a Kull Warrior followed them and boarded their ship. Jacob led it back to the cargo area where Bra'tac activated the Ring Transporter and sent it outside. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 2") He was working with Samantha on the Kull disruptor at the Alpha Site when they were attacked by Anubis. He was later found injured and taken back to the SGC. He learned that the High Council no longer trusted Selmak, believing that Jacob had had too much sway on them. Jacob told Samantha that he wasn't going to be around much as he needed to regain the trust of the Tok'ra. (SG1: "Death Knell")

Selmak began to die but Jacob refused to let him go as he was needed. (SG1: "Threads") When the Replicators began attacking the Goa'uld, he took a subspace communication receiver and came to the SGC. He wanted to relay information to Ba'al about changing his tactics fighting the Goa'uld but O'Neill didn't want to as it would risk Teal'c and Bra'tac on Dakara. When Ba'al contacted the SGC via hologram, O'Neill stopped Jacob from telling Ba'al to fall back. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1") he went to Dakara with Samantha to find a weapon hidden there that Anubis was after. They located the weapon and discovered it could be used to destroy the Replicators so they worked on modifying it. After activating it and destroying the Replicators, Selmak fell into a coma but he kept it from Samantha. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 2") He met Pete Shanahan but soon came to realize that Samantha had feelings for O'Neill. He met Mark and his grandchildren before he fell ill from Selmak dying and had to reveal it to Samantha. He told her not to let rules stand in the way of her happiness before he died along with Selmak. (SG1: "Threads")
