Jaffa High Council

The Jaffa are a race of warriors created by the Goa'uld on Dakara.

The Jaffa lose their immune system as they get older, requiring them to get a symbiote or they will die. (SG1: "Bloodlines") When they have a symbiote they are stronger and more resilient than humans and will heal from injuries quickly and resist a diseases. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "The Nox", "Message in a Bottle") Jaffa are much more resistant than humans to radiation, but will die when exposed to large amounts over a short period. (SG1: "Crystal Skull", "Nemesis", "Revelations") A Jaffa can consciously get the symbiote within it to poke its head out of their pouch. (SG1: "The Enemy Within") Jaffa are implanted with a symbiote in the Prim'ta ritual. (SG1: "Bloodlines") A Jaffa can enter into a form of communication with the Goa'uld within them by entering a deep state of Kelno'reem and the Goa'uld can share images with the Jaffa. (SG1: "Crossroads") Jaffa are susceptible to the Reole chemical with their symbiotes not able to counter its effects. (SG1: "The Fifth Man") They are susceptible to Symbiote poison and will die when exposed to it as their symbiote dies. (SG1: "Summit", "Last Stand") In deep states of Kelno'reem, the heart beats a few beats per minute and can mask their life signs from sensors. (SG1: "Descent") Jaffa are immune to the Ancient plague due to their symbiotes. (SG1: "Frozen") Before using Jaffa as incubators for symbiotes, there was a one in two chance of a successful blending. (SG1: "Cure") Jaffa can use modified Tretonin as a substitute for a symbiote. (SG1: "The Changeling") When on Tretonin, a Jaffa is still stronger and more resilient than humans. (SG1: "Lifeboat") They can withstand environments with intense heat and toxic fumes for longer periods than humans. (SG1: "Orpheus")

Spirituality is common among the Jaffa, often separate to the religion around the Goa'uld. They have a belief that their souls go to Kheb when they die. (SG1: "Maternal Instinct") Female Jaffa receive combat training as they are expected to defend their homes when the men are called to battle, but few if any are allowed to serve in armies. (SG1: "Birthright")

The Jaffa were once humans who were converted to serve an incubators for symbiotes and the foot soldiers of the Goa'uld on the planet Dakara. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "The Enemy Within", "Reckoning, Part 1") They were created prior to 3000 B.C.. (SG1: "Moebius, Part 1") In 1997 Teal'c turned against Apophis and joined the Tau'ri. (SG1: "Children of the Gods") Teal'c returned to Chulak and asked for other Jaffa to turn against the Goa'uld and fight for freedom for their people; several Jaffa accepted and joined in rebellion. (SG1: "Into the Fire") Many Jaffa continue to work under the Goa'uld as a Fifth column, undermining their power and operations. (SG1: "Allegiance") Most Jaffa gained their freedom after the rebel Jaffa gained control of Dakara and the Goa'uld were mostly defeated. The Free Jaffa Nation was formed led by the Jaffa High Council. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1", "Reckoning, Part 2", "Threads") In 2006 the council voted to enact democracy and began planning to hold elections. (SG1: "Stronghold")
