A Nuclear bomb, also known as a Nuke, Atom bomb, Atomic bomb or Nuclear warhead, is a weapon of mass destruction.

Overview

There are two ways to cause a detonation in nuclear bombs - implosion and a gun-type bomb. They cause an inward explosive force that compresses the material, turning subcritical mass into supercritical mass. (SGA: "Underground") Nuclear bombs produce massive explosions and their destructive power can be expanded when used in conjunction with Naquadah. (Stargate) Nuclear bomb explosions can cause electromagnetic pulses when they detonate. (SG1: "The Serpent's Lair") Deuterium can be used to make nuclear weapons. (SG1: "The Other Side") A fist sized amount of Uranium-235 is required for nuclear bombs. (SGA: "Underground")

Variants

History

Jamus' people used nuclear weapons against the Wraith, intending to make their planet uninhabitable to trick the Wraith into never coming back. (SGA: "The Ark") The first nuclear weapons on Earth were invented by people who believed they would only be used to maintain peace. (SG1: "Ascension") Meredith Rodney McKay built a model bomb for his sixth grade sciene fair that caused him to be questioned by the CIA. (SGA: "Underground") A nuclear bomb was sent through the Stargate to Abydos with the team from Project Giza, only being known by Jack O'Neill who had orders to use it if they found any threat to Earth. Ra took the device when it was found and planned to send it back to Earth with a shipment of Naquadah in order to destroy Earth; he rigged the bomb to be unable to be disarmed. O'Neill and Daniel Jackson used a Ring Transporter to send the armed bomb up to Ra's ship, where it destroyed the vessel and killed Ra. (Stargate) After several hostiles came through the Stargate, Major General George Hammond was given orders to send a nuclear bomb to Abydos but the plan was scrapped instead for a reconnaissance mission. (SG1: "Children of the Gods")

Area 51 developed the Goa'uld-buster, a Naquadah-enriched Mark 12A nuclear bomb; two of these weapons were launched at two Goa'uld Ha'taks in orbit of Earth but they struck the shields and the ships were undamaged. (SG1: "The Serpent's Lair") The Goa'uld sent an asteroid towards Earth that had a core of Naquadah as they knew the only way they would have to destroy it was to use a nuclear bomb. (SG1: "Fail Safe") The Genii began building nuclear bombs to destroy the Wraith as they hibernated but their program was slow. (SGA: "Underground") The System Lords infiltrated The Trust and tried to get Russia and the United States to enter into a nuclear war to wipe them all out. (SG1: "Full Alert") A military team sent to Atlantis had six proximity- detonated Naquadah-enhanced bombs which were deployed in orbit but were destroyed when the Wraith sent asteroids towards Lantea. Elizabeth Weir negotiated with the Genii to obtain two of their nuclear bombs to be used against the Wraith. They had to be fixed as they were incomplete and only one was used. (SGA: "The Siege, Part 2")

The Daedalus beamed nuclear bombs aboard Hive ships to destroy them. A nuclear bomb was detonated above Atlantis to trick the Wraith into thinking they destroyed Atlantis. (SGA: "The Siege, Part 3") Kvasir provided an Asgard Time dilation device to the SGC to be used to get a Nuclear bomb near a black hole and sever a connection between alternate realities. (SG1: "Ripple Effect") Ladon Radim used a nuclear bomb to kill Chief Cowen on M6R-867. (SGA: "Coup D'etat") A nuclear bomb was used to deliver energy to a Stargate in order to cause the wormhole on the other end to jump to the Supergate. Two more detonated in succession were tried but it also failed. Two were beamed onto a Hive ship passing by the Stargate to destroy it and the energy caused the wormhole to jump. (SG1: "The Pegasus Project") Tenara and Futura on Novus developed nuclear weapons to use against one another but never did. (SGU: "Common Descent")
