Season 1 of Stargate SG-1 is a 21-episode season that aired from July 27, 1997 to March 6, 1998.

After an attack, Jack O'Neill is brought out of retirement and joins his old friend Daniel Jackson, and astrophysicist Samantha Carter to explore other planets through the Stargate. They come into conflict with the Goa'uld who rule over vast empires throughout the galaxy and set out to rescue Jackson's wife and brother in law. Captured by the Goa'uld Apophis, this new team is joined by a former enemy soldier, the Jaffa Teal'c.

When Major Kawalsky is found to have been infested with a Goa'uld, they must find a way to remove it before it takes full control. A team of doctors performs a dangerous surgery to remove it without killing him. Teal'c is interviewed by intelligence officers who want to take him away for study.

After rescuing a young man, SG-1 finds themselves on a planet where women are not allowed to show their faces in public or speak unless spoken to. Carter is kidnapped by the young man in order to sell her to a rival tribe and SG-1 head off to rescue her.

SG-1 visits a planet with two different cultures on it, a Bronze Age civlization and a primitive Stone Age culture. Returning to Earth a strange virus begins to spread through Stargate Command turning those affected into aggressive primitives like those on the planet. With little time to find a treatment, Daniel Jackson and Teal'c return to the planet and Jackson is kidnapped by the primitives.

After contact is lost with SG-9, SG-1 goes through the Stargate to look for them finding their leader Captain Jonas Hanson has begun to believe that he is a god. He has the people building a temple for him, working them to death in the process.

O'Neill touched a strange crystal on an alien planet and is knocked out and replaced by an energy being duplicate. When O'Neill returns to Earth the team goes in search of this duplicate, learning that its kind will deteriorate and potentially irradiate people.

SG-1 head out to locate a creature that can turn itself invisible and encounter Apophis doing the same. Attempting to capture Apophis ends badly as most of are killed but revived and make contact with a strange group of humanoid aliens who could end up enslaved by the Goa'uld.

SG-1 visit a paradise world filled with beautiful people who celebrate everyday, but as the sun sets they all fall into a deep sleep. O'Neill collapses soon afterwards and it is discovered that he and the people are affected by something that accelerates their aging and reduces their lifespan to 100 days.

SG-1 go to Cimmeria to try to make contact with Thor, a benevolant alien who has helped humans in the past. O'Neill and Teal'c are sent into a Labyrinth designed to trap Goa'uld and Jaffa that come to Cimmeria and are hunted by a Goa'uld in a powerful host.

Jackson discovers that a team in 1945 managed to activate the Stargate and sent a man through. The team is joined by Catherine Langford and journey to the planet to locate him, but end up trapped due to a destroyed Dial Home Device and inside a castle crumbling over the edge of a cliff.

Teal'c reveals that he has a family back on Chulak and wants to stop him son from being implanted with a symbiote as it is the means that the Goa'uld enslave the Jaffa. SG-1 infiltrate Chulak to find them but discover the burnt remains of Teal'c's home and Teal'c son dying.

SG-1 return to Earth after witnessing the death of Daniel Jackson but after having a funeral, SG-1 begin to believe that Jackson is still alive. Jackson finds himself a prisoner of a strange being who wants to know what happened to his mate on Earth 4,000 years ago.

A woman arrives at Stargate Command stating that she is looking for the Stargate and it is revealed that she is the Goa'uld Hathor who had been trapped on Earth for the past two thousand years. She begins to influence the men on the base and turns the base into her nest, giving birth to a brood of symbiotes.

SG-1 discover an entire planet and SG-7 dead from a strange bacteria, with only one survivor - a young girl called Cassandra. Bringing her back to Earth they discover that she has a powerful bomb growing inside her body, put there by the Goa'uld to destroy Earth.

SG-1 visits Cartago where Teal'c is accused of murder he did decades ago while serving Apophis and is put on trial. Teal'c refuses to escape, wanting to allow one person he has wronged to have retribution and SG-1 must prove that he is a changed man and his continued life will help save other lives.

SG-1 rescue a group of people that have significantly more advanced technology than they do but refuse to share anything about themselves. After they mysteriously escape using their advanced technology, Colonel Maybourne from the NID arrives to take them away to a secure facility.

Daniel Jackson and Teal'c are flung through the Stargate returning from a mission and the gate shut down before O'Neill and Carter come through, forcing them to work on a way to locate where they ended up. O'Neill and Carter find themselves in a frozen glacier with a Stargate that doesn't work.

SG-1 meets a strange man named Harlan who informs them that he has made them better but refuses to elaborate. They soon discover that they are in synthetic bodies and are forced to return through the Stargate as they begin to run low on energy. They try to force Harlan to put them back into their bodies.

After touching an alien device on another world, Jackson returns to Earth to find the planet under attack from the Goa'uld, people in different positions and no one knowing who he is. He soon discovers that he has been sent to an alternate reality and must try to figure out how to get home to stop a similar attack on his Earth.

Senator Robert Kinsey cuts the SGC's funding believing that the Stargate is to big of a risk to be allowed to be used. SG-1 and Hammond meet with the Senator to discuss their experiences and try to convince him to reinstate funding.

With the Stargate Program shut down, SG-1 go through the Stargate to determine if the Goa'uld are planning an attack on Earth. They find themselves aboard an attack ship headed for Earth commanded by Klorel, the Goa'uld who took Skaara as a host and Apophis' son.
