"They're programmed to gather data, resources, to manufacture Stargates and deposit them in habitable worlds. Any relevant information is relayed back here to help plot the course."
- Nicholas Rush - Air, Part 2

A Seed ship is an unmanned Ancient spaceship.

The ships a third of the size of Destiny. (SGU: "Resurgence") The ships gather data about the regions they are travelling through and pick up resources to manufacture Stargates and deposit them on habitable worlds. They transmit all their data back to Destiny. (SGU: "Air, Part 2") The ships have a large area in them where they manufacture Stargates, putting them together in an assembly line. There is a small control area aboard. Access through the ship is done through narrow corridors. Destiny can dock with seed ships. (SGU: "Awakening") The ships have Faster-Than-Light engines and appear to repower themselves by collecting matter from stars like Destiny. (SGU: "Resurgence")

The ships were launched ahead of Destiny and placed a number of Stargates on planets. (SGU: "Air, Part 2") One of these ships was adrift in space and found by the Ursini who sent a team aboard to study it, but no one ever came back for them. (SGU: "Awakening", "Resurgence") Destiny dropped out near the ship, docked with it and exchanged information. A team went aboard and the Ursini woke from their stasis pods. They tried to siphon energy to Destiny to power the Stargate to dial Earth but the Ursini reversed it instead. Destiny was disconnected and the Seed ship was left behind, with Colonel David Telford aboard. (SGU: "Awakening") Telford worked with the aliens to repair the ship and go after Destiny, saving it from Berzerker drones and taking them through a star to avoid the drones. The ship docked with Destiny and later took it through FTL. (SGU: "Resurgence") The ship went dark when more drones were incoming and then was taken on a suicide run with the drone Command ship but was destroyed before it reached the target. (SGU: "Deliverance")
