Stargate Command is an underground facility for the Stargate Program located in the sublevels of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, under NORAD.

Overview

Entrances

The main entrance is accessible through a tunnel that cars can drive down. A large blast door can block the entrance off. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "Message in a Bottle") There is second smaller entrance just for personnel, seemingly from the motor pool that includes a hand scanner. (SG1: "In the Line of Duty") There is an emergency exit that exists on top of the mountain. (SG1: "Enigma") There are tube entrances that exit on the surface and have security codes that release Tear gas if incorrect codes are entered. (SG1: "Foothold", "Proving Ground")

History

Stargate Command was formed in February, 1997 as a base of operations for the Stargate Program. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "Politics") The base became infected with a virus that forced it to go into lockdown to prevent the virus from getting out; a cure was developed before it spread any further. (SG1: "The Broca Divide") The Goa'uld Hathor used a chemical to influence the men on the base and eventually control them, the women of the base managed to escape from captivity and forced Hathor to flee, freeing the facility from her control. (SG1: "Hathor") Senator Robert Kinsey, unimpressed with the Stargate Program and its $7.4 billion cost, shut the base down. (SG1: "Politics") After SG-1 went through the Stargate without authorization and two Goa'uld Ha'taks were detected in orbit the base was used to track them as well as begin evacuating people to the Alpha Site. (SG1: "Within the Serpent's Grasp", "The Serpent's Lair")

The SGC was put into the Wildfire directive lockdown when an Orb produced spikes, anchored itself in the gateroom and began releasing an organism that could spread across the planet and kill everyone. The organism communicated with them and was convinced to go through the Stargate so that both races would live. (SG1: "Message in a Bottle") After some aliens discovered that the SGC had been order to mine Trinium from PXY-887 against the wishes of the Salish, they started to take over the facility with the intention of destroying it but were convinced to bury their Stargate instead. (SG1: "Spirits") When the SGC dialed into a planet being sucked into a Black hole, the base began to experience time dilation with the lower levels experiencing slower time than the upper levels. Their was a plan to use the auto-destruct to destroy the Stargate to save Earth but an alternative was devised that prevented the base's destruction. (SG1: "A Matter of Time")

A team of Reetou Rebels came to the SGC, intending to escape the base and plant explosives to attack Earth, but they were discovered before they could cause any damage. (SG1: "Show and Tell") The SGC hosted three System Lords - Cronus, Nirrti and Yu - for negotiations with the Asgard to include Earth in the Protected Planets Treaty. The base had to have all weapons removed for the summit. (SG1: "Fair Game") Some aliens infiltrated the SGC, replacing many of the personnel with duplicates using Mimic devices. Samantha Carter, Colonel Harry Maybourne and his NID soldiers assaulted the base, causing some of the aliens to flee and the others to destroy themelves. (SG1: "Foothold") In 2000 Hammond retired and the base was commanded by Major General Johnathan Bauer but he was eventually removed and Hammond was reinstated. (SG1: "Chain Reaction")

When the SGC sent a MALP to a planet, the Entities on the planet were damaged by the radio signals and sent one of their Entites back to the SGC to overload the computers, causing them to explode in an attempt to destroy the base. The Entity survived the wipe of the computer systems and built a memory mainframe device as a plan to get into one of the personnel's bodies. (SG1: "Entity") Several levels of the SGC were shut down to help run a fake foothold exercise for new SGC recruits. (SG1: "Proving Ground") The SGC was shut down for 48 hours after Teal'c became trapped in the Stargate and it could not be used. (SG1: "48 Hours") The base was briefly taken over by the Replicators that were controlled by the android Reese who attempted to gain control of the computers and escape through the Stargate. (SG1: "Menace")

When the Stargate was destroyed by Anubis using a weapon, the SGC had to shut down as operating the second Stargate until a defense was created was impossible. Fortunately the weapon had been destroyed so the second Stargate was installed and the SGC resumed operations. (SG1: "Redemption, Part 1", "Redemption, Part 2") A teenage clone of Jack O'Neill escaped from the SGC as he knew everything about the base. (SG1: "Fragile Balance") Emmett Bregman came to the SGC to film a documentary on the program. (SG1: "Heroes, Part 1") General Hammond was removed from command by President Henry Hayes who appointed Dr. Elizabeth Weir as the new commander. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 1", "Lost City, Part 2") Three System Lords came to the SGC to discuss a treaty but they're offer was declined and they were later detained when it was discovered that the other System Lords were sending a ship to attack. They were later released. Dr. Weir was transferred to the Antarctic outpost after just over a week in command and O'Neill was promoted and became the new base commander. (SG1: "New Order, Part 1", "New Order, Part 2")

When it was discovered that Anubis was inhabiting SGC personnel, the base was put into lockdown and separated into three zones to prevent Anubis from using the Stargate, forcing him to use his ascended abilities and incur the wrath of the Others. He overrode the system and made it to the Stargate but was instead sent to another planet and became trapped there. (SG1: "Lockdown") A plant being studied at the SGC spread into the walls and began affecting power and communication lines, taking the Stargate offline. The President came to the base for a ceremony to endorse O'Neill as the new base commander. (SG1: "Zero Hour") The Replicators hacked the computers and opened the Iris, invading the SGC. They took control of the auto-destruct device so a Nuclear bomb was planned to drop down into the base to destroy it. The Replicators were all wiped out when the Stargate activated and a wave of energy came through. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 2")

Major General Hank Landry took command of the SGC after O'Neill was promoted and took over command of Homeworld Command. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 1") In 2008 a Wraith Stun device arrived through the Stargate and stunned the entire base. A number of Wraith infiltrated the base and began to make their way out. Teal'c and Ronon Dex were able to take out all the Wraith before a nuclear bomb was used. (SGA: "Midway")
