The Tok'ra are a race of symbiotes.

Overview

The Tok'ra do not believe in taking hosts against their will but will if they have no other choice, they prefer to take hosts who are close to death that they can heal and consent to co-existing with them. (SG1: "In the Line of Duty") They believe in having a truly symbiotic relationship, with the host being able to act and speak themselves. (SG1: "The Tok'ra, Part 1") Acts that involve taking complete control of the host are sickening to them. (SG1: "Allegiance") They have advanced crystal growing technology that they use to make underground bases for them to hide in but when undercover will use Goa'uld technology to remain undetected. (SG1: "The Tok'ra, Part 1", "The Tok'ra, Part 2") The Tok'ra can take on traits from their hosts when they blend, even altering their behavior. (SG1: "Abyss")

History

The Tok'ra were spawned by Egeria who was shortly afterwards captured by Ra and imprisoned in a Canopic jar, with rumor being that he had killed Egeria instead. (SG1: "Cure", "Crossroads") Jolinar of Malkshur formed an army to attack a System Lord but was defeated when Apophis joined in the battle and had to flee. (SG1: "In the Line of Duty") In 1998 the Tok'ra met SG-1 who wanted to form an alliance against the Goa'uld. When the System Lords launched an attack against the Tok'ra, Jack O'Neill uncovered a Goa'uld spy in their ranks. Jacob Carter agreed to be a host for Selmak, who's host was dying and it helped to form an alliance between the Tok'ra and the Tau'ri. (SG1: "The Tok'ra, Part 1", "The Tok'ra, Part 2") When the Tok'ra learned that the Tau'ri had captured Apophis, taking him after he had escaped from Sokar, Martouf went to Earth to warn them to return him through the Stargate to prevent Sokar from turning his attention to Earth. (SG1: "Serpent's Song") They were later contacted by Stargate Command about the Reetou and supplied the SGC with Transphase Eradication Rods to protect themselves. (SG1: "Show and Tell") A Tok'ra operative passed along information on the whereabouts of SG-1 who had been captured by Hathor. (SG1: "Out of Mind", "Into the Fire")

The Tok'ra began to take a census of the Goa'uld and had no information on Seth after the burial of the Stargate on Earth and so they sent Jacob Carter to ask the SGC for help in tracking him down on Earth. (SG1: "Seth") The Tok'ra were called to Tollana to remove the Goa'uld Klorel from Skaara after the Tollan Triad voted in favor of Skaara regaining full control over his body. The removal was a success. (SG1: "Pretense") The Tok'ra officially entered into an alliance with the Tau'ri by signing the Tau'ri-Tok'ra Treaty. (SG1: "Divide and Conquer") The Tok'ra stated that they were officially unable to send a ship to extract Jack O'Neill and Teal'c from the X-301 that was heading away from Earth. (SG1: "Tangent") The Tok'ra sent information to Jacob when he was on Earth about a potential alliance between Apophis and Heru'ur, wanting him and SG-1 to stop it. (SG1: "The Serpent's Venom") The Tok'ra were planning to move the Stargate from Vorash and moving to a new planet to better hide from the Goa'uld using a Ha'tak that had been captured by SG-1. The plan was abandoned when Apophis headed towards Vorash in favor of using the ship as part of a plan to wipe out part of Apophis' fleet. (SG1: "Exodus")

The Tok'ra base on Revanna was attacked and many of the Tok'ra there were killed. (SG1: "Summit", "Last Stand") The Tok'ra remained on the run and began to collect their undercover operatives to regroup. (SG1: "Revelations") The Tok'ra had SG-1 go to recover information that Khonsu had gained on Anubis in order to allow Khonsu to keep his position, however his First Prime Herak had uncovered his identity and killed him. (SG1: "The Other Guys") The Tok'ra base in the Risa System was attacked by Anubis and they lost over 75% of the personnel there. (SG1: "Allegiance") The Tok'ra learned that Egeria was alive but were too late to save her life. (SG1: "Cure") The Tok'ra modified Tretonin to work with a Jaffa physiology, hoping it would be a replacement for symbiotes to free the Jaffa and weaken the Goa'uld. (SG1: "The Changeling") The Tok'ra provided intelligence about Anubis' Mothership easily conquering the other System Lords and then helped in a plan to take the ship down.(SG1: "Fallen")

The Tok'ra came to Earth to remove Osiris from Sarah Gardner. (SG1: "Chimera") After an attack on the Alpha Site, the Tok'ra were concerned about their dwindling numbers due to their alliance and made the decision to leave the Beta Site and end the Tau'ri-Tok'ra Alliance. (SG1: "Death Knell") The Tok'ra provided some information to the SGC telling them they had no known location of where Ba'al was holding SG-1. (SG1: "Zero Hour") The Tok'ra provided intelligence about Ba'al and his war against the System Lords and asked the SGC to go and retrieve Harry Maybourne before the Goa'uld Ares found him. (SG1: "It's Good To Be King") The Tok'ra attempted to form an alliance with the Free Jaffa Nation after the defeat of the Goa'uld. (SG1: "Ex Deus Machina") The Tok'ra learned that a number of Stargates were being stolen and reported it to the SGC. (SG1: "Off the Grid") They provided information on Athena to Jackson. (SG1: "Memento Mori")

In 2008 the final Ba'al clone was captured and the Tok'ra planned to remove him from his host. (SGA: "Search and Rescue") The Tok'ra established a new homeworld, living on the surface for the first time in many years. (Stargate: Continuum)
