Yu, also known as Yu the Great, Yu Huang Shang Ti and the Jade Emperor, was a Goa'uld and a System Lord.

Biography

Yu may have ruled over China at some point in the past serving as one of its early emperors. (SG1: "Fair Game") Yu was among the System Lords to banish and attempt to kill Anubis. (SG1: "Last Stand") In 1999 he along with Cronus and Nirrti went to Earth through the Stargate as representatives of the System Lords for a meeting with the Asgard Thor to negotiate for Earth's inclusion in the Protected Planets Treaty. Yu was in favor of the treaty as his interests no longer resided in the area of the galaxy where Earth was located. He found a security camera in the quarters he was given at Stargate Command, ripping it from the wall and demanding that the others be removed. He was in agreement for Earth's inclusion in the treaty with the concession that the two Stargates on Earth be given up. When Cronus was badly injured, Yu demanded that they be allowed to take him back through the Stargate to save his life but they were prevented from leaving as one of them was responsible. When it was revealed to him that Nirrti had been working on Phase shifting technology, Yu attacked her stating that she had long coveted Cronus' territory. Nirrti escaped and shot at Yu, with Jack O'Neill pulling him down to save his life. Upon Nirrti's capture, Yu agreed to vote with Cronus to allow Earth to retain their Stargates. He and a healed Cronus took Nirrti back through the Stargate. (SG1: "Fair Game")

Yu's former Lo'taur accidentally gave away information to Morrigan that allowed her to attack his secret base on Valon. Yu did battle against Olokun's forces and beat him. Yu's forces came under attack by a mysterious attacker who only assaulted with ships. He attended a meeting with the System Lords to discuss this mysterious attacker who was attacking all the System Lords. He went to the Hasara Space station with his Lo'taur Jarren, who was actually Daniel Jackson who had affected Yu with Reole chemical to make him believe he was Jarren. (SG1: "Summit") After Osiris arrived and petitioned for Anubis to be made into a System Lord again, Yu said that he was dead and that he had been banished never to be allowed to be returned. Osiris met with Yu to tell him that if he votes in favor of Anubis, they would destroy Earth before he officially joined them. Yu was the only System Lord to vote against Anubis but the vote didn't need to be unanimous so Anubis was welcomed back. Ba'al's Slave told Yu that his new Lo'taur could not be trusted and he found Jackson locking Osiris up. He knocked Jackson down and when he let Osiris out she stabbed him. He go up and attacked her. (SG1: "Last Stand")

He has Imhotep go undercover as his own First Prime to recruit as many rebel Jaffa as possible in order to wipe them out. He learned that Imhotep had betrayed him and was planning on using the rebel Jaffa to overthrow the Goa'uld and had attempted to take over one of Yu's motherships. When Teal'c was captured on Yu's homeworld, he was brought before Yu who allowed Teal'c to go free and told him what he had done with Imhotep. (SG1: "The Warrior") Yu did battle with Osiris' forces, beating them back. (SG1: "Revelations") He was made aware of a secret outpost owned by Ba'al and sent a ship to attack it. (SG1: "Abyss") Yu was the last of the System Lords to resist Anubis, with the other joining him or being defeated. He was attacked by Ba'al but he fought back and escaped. (SG1: "Prophecy") Yu was made aware that Anubis was looking for the Eyes of the Goa'uld and he rallied the System Lords against him, taking a fleet to Abydos to attack his mothership. He demanded that Anubis hand over the Eye of Ra or be destroyed. Anubis used the Eyes to power his new weapon and destroyed many of the attacking ships, but Yu managed to escape. (SG1: "Full Circle")

Yu began to suffer from old age, he was unable to take a new host and became paranoid and forgetful and began using the Sarcophagus most of the time. When Teal'c came to him with a plan to destroy Anubis' mothership, he agreed to send his ships to attack. When his First Prime, Oshu, told him that the fleet was ready, Yu snapped at him saying that the fleet was ready when he said it was and told Oshu that if he spoke to him as if he was a fool, he would have him killed. He ordered the fleet sent but later became confused and had it redirected to the Chodawa System believing Anubis to be there. (SG1: "Fallen", "Homecoming") Yu continued to decline but his underlings continued to hide his condition from the other System Lords. He came to Earth with Camulus and Amaterasu to discuss a treaty in exchange for them defeating Ba'al and during the meeting Yu mentioned that Anubis was growing stronger, to everyone's confusion. The System Lords were recalled but were detained after it was discovered that the other System Lords had launched an attack on Earth to test its defenses. (SG1: "New Order, Part 1") He and the others were later freed as they were of more us fighting Ba'al. (SG1: "New Order, Part 2")

As the other System Lords were being defeated by Ba'al, he worked with Amaterasu for a final last stand. (SG1: "It's Good To Be King") He and the last of the System Lords met on the Hasara Space station with a Representative of Ba'al who offered them the chance to surrender and keep their terrritories but serve under Ba'al. Oshu said it was wise that Ba'al did not come himself and Yu remarked that he would have killed Ba'al with his bare hands if he had. Samantha Carter was captured coming to the station and brought in and Yu asked her what she was doing there. Carter was actually Replicator Carter and stabbed Yu through the chest, killing him. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1")
